Henry Owen
Dr. Henry Owen (B.S. Biology, College of William & Mary, 1982; M.S.
Horticulture, Virginia Tech, 1984; Ph.D. Genetics, VA Tech, 1987) is an Associate
Professor of Botany and teaches a wide variety of courses, such as Introductory Biology,
General Botany, Heredity & Society, Plants & Civilization, Genetics, Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding, and
Plant Cell & Tissue Culture. His research program focuses on site inventories, seed
physiology, and reestablishment of endangered Illinois plant species. In addition to
serving as President of Phi Sigma, he also serves as the Faculty Advisor for the
Beta Pi Chapter at EIU. Each year, the Beta Pi Chapter conducts a plant sale and a used
book sale to raise funds for student research awards.
